Focus and Scope

PRISMATIUM: Journal of Multilingual Translation and Multimodal Studies publishes original scholarly research on the translation of meaning across languages and semiotic modes. The journal focuses on translation strategies, cultural representation, and the interaction of verbal, visual, and auditory resources in translated texts and media.

The journal welcomes empirical, theoretical, and methodological studies within three core areas:

  1. Multilingual Translation Studies
Translation strategies, meaning shifts, and cultural representation in literary and non-literary translation involving two or more languages.
  2. Audiovisual and Multimodal Translation
Subtitling, dubbing, audio description, and the translation of multimedia content, with particular attention to how language, images, and sound jointly construct meaning.
  3. Intersemiotic Translation
The interpretation and transformation of meaning between verbal and non-verbal forms, including adaptations of written texts into visual, audiovisual, and performative media.

Corpus-based methods, computer-assisted translation, and machine or AI-assisted translation are welcome when they directly address issues within these core areas.

Scope Requirement. All submissions must place translation at the centre of their research questions and analysis. General studies of multilingualism, language teaching, linguistics, media, communication, or technology without a substantive focus on translation fall outside the journal’s scope.
